ZYPLIAI MANOR ESTATE – AN OASIS OF HISTORY, CULTURE, AND HOSPITALITY
Zypliai Manor Estate is one of the most impressive Neo-Baroque manor ensembles in Lithuania, located in the Šakiai District, near the town of Lukšiai. Its history dates back to the early 19th century, when these lands were owned by Napoleon's marshal, Duke Józef Poniatowski. Around 1845, the first manor house was built here, and under the ownership of Count Tomasz Potocki, the estate acquired its current form – a two-storey palace with ornate dormers, a 21-hectare park, and an extensive complex of farm buildings.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Zypliai Manor became an important educational and social centre – it housed a seminary, an agricultural school, and a hospital. Vidas Cikana, a sculptor who moved to Lukšiai in 1981, started taking care of the manor buildings and initiated its restoration.
Today, Zypliai Manor is not only a historic site but also a vibrant cultural hub, open to every visitor.
What to experience at Zypliai Manor Estate?
Zypliai Manor's Central Palace – a Meeting Place of History and Culture
The manor's central palace, managed by the Lukšiai branch of the Šakiai Cultural Centre, is a place where history merges with contemporary culture. In its restored spaces, visitors are welcomed by exhibitions that tell the story of the manor's past, local community life, and regional identity.
The palace hosts professional art exhibitions, chamber concerts, theatrical guided tours, and educational programs for all age groups. Visitors can try their hand at clay workshops, and in the interactive program "Pheasant Hunt," learn about hunting culture in a playful and engaging way.
The central palace also serves as a stage for cultural events, featuring concerts from the "Beatričė's Summer" festival, the artists' plein air workshop "Zypliai Grasshoppers," and many other creative projects.
When visiting the palace, it's also worth stopping by the Zypliai Manor Stables Gallery – a historical building now home to the Folk Art and Traditional Crafts Centre. Here you'll find ongoing exhibitions of woodcarving, textiles, ceramics, and paintings, as well as artist meet-and-greets, creative workshops, and art shows.

"Kuchmistrai" Restaurant – Culinary Manor Heritage and Hospitality
The "Kuchmistrai" restaurant, located in the manor's historic kitchen building, preserves traditions of gastronomic heritage and hospitality. Its name comes from the old word kuchmistras – the manor's head chef.
The restaurant invites guests to enjoy dishes from the historic cuisine of the Lithuanian nobility, carefully recreated using authentic recipes. Guests can also take part in themed tastings and engaging educational programs that reveal the culinary traditions of the manor.
The first officina houses a 4-star hotel, offering guests countryside tranquillity and the authentic atmosphere of historical interiors. In the future, educational activities will also be held in the second officina, further expanding the experience of manor life.
